How Does Our Beef Meet The Red Tractor Standard?

Most UK wholesale meat suppliers and/or abattoirs either have acquired the Red Tractor label or are working towards this world recognised standard. In the UK, the quality of the meat and subsequently where it comes from, is very important to customers.

Afterall, it is estimated that the UK has one of the most stringent and rigorous quality assurance standards available. With this kind of reputation, there is no wonder so many people are rushing to acquire this accreditation. You might be asking however, how do the various meats acquire such a reputable label. With wholesale beef being one of our most popular products; we thought why not detail exactly how our delicious high quality beef meets the Red Tractor criteria.

Farmers Demonstrate Above Basic Competency

When it comes to working on a farm, you would expect at least basic competency and knowledge to be exhibited. To meet the Red Tractor requirement however, farm workers are expected to demonstrate above this basic entry level requirement. In addition  to the expected standard, full and creditable training to be carried out before the workers even step foot on a farm.

Beef Must Be 100% Traceable

Traceability is of paramount importance for Red Tractor, and for the meat industry in the UK at large. The UK customer’s want to know where their beef is coming from. This is why in order for beef to meet the required standards all cattle must have a UK passport and receive 2 tags within 20 days of their birth. This helps to maintain traceability offering an excellent piece of mind to our customer’s.

Safe, Comfortable and Hygienic Living Conditions

All cattle in Red Tractor approved farms must have safe, comfortable and hygienic living conditions available. All living conditions for Red Tractor approved farms must include:

  • A safe and secure living arrangement
  • Well ventilated living conditions
  • Well lit to allow for normal behaviours to be carried out
  • Clean and regularly checked
  • Ample room ensuring livestock and not overcrowded
  • Dry and Sheltered

Health Diet

A healthy and nutritional diet is not just beneficial for humans but also beneficial for your cows too. Cattle on Red Tractor labelled farms enjoy and all encompassing healthier diet. Food is also carefully managed to ensure the cattle never go hungry but are not overfed.

Protection Against Diseases

With diseases and nasty viruses seemingly on the rise in parts of the world, it is of the utmost importance that your animals are protected against the spread of diseases and harmful bacteria. All Red Tractor farms have a strict biosecurity policy which ensures your animals are protected against such illness and diseases.
